The ITQ Advanced (Information Technology Qualification) qualifications are work-based awards designed in 2010 and added to the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) for England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Scottish Qualifications and Credit Framework (SQCF). ITQs form part of the National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) updated framework also known as the Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ). ITQs were designed by employers and awarding bodies to meet the needs of today's businesses.
The ITQ suite of shared units (QCF, SQCF) were developed to make it easier for learners and employers to access qualifications by allowing only one mandatory unit to be completed for certificates and diplomas. ITQ levels range from Entry up to Level 3 and work on a credits basis with each credit representing 10 notional learning hours’ flexible rules of combination (ROC):
- Entry Level
- Level 1 (minimum 9-12 credits)
- Level 2 (minimum 13-25 credits)
- Level 3 (minimum 37-39 credits)
ITQ Delivery Options
ITQ is designed to be vendor neutral; this allows company-specific software applications and specialist software (bespoke) to be used. Delivery options for ITQs are either a work-based approach where a candidate builds an assessment portfolio by gathering evidence of their skills within the workplace or gaining the required skills via an approved learning centre via tests and scenarios. Candidates can also use Accreditation of Prior Achievement (APA) to add evidence towards their portfolio. Learners will still need to complete a final mandatory unit, which is assessed separately. ITQ units can be incorporated into other popular qualifications such as the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) syllabus.
